A Stone Alone
Cast and carved foam, paint, motor, steel, speaker / 8' x 8' x 20" not including steel support / 2024
Suspended from the ceiling of a refurbished flour mill is a massive circular object reminiscent of a weathered millstone. While its scale and implied weight feel imposing, its stone texture and slow rotation elicit a sense of calm. Here, uncoupled from its secondary stone that would have allowed it to grind grain, it continues to emanate the sound of its prior work. Now as if in a meditative dance, it emulates its movement once central to a mill. In material, motion, and sound, A Stone Alone embodies a primordial presence that enacts the passing of time as both cyclical and never ending.
