Firefall
Wood, fire, steel pushers, performers / 300’ long / 2012
For nearly 100 years, an event known as the “firefall” took place at Yosemite National Park. Before being discontinued in the 1960’s, it consisted of shoveling large piles of hot embers over a cliff as a nightly spectacle. Wanting to recreate this forgotten experience, a cement plant with shear cliffs in upstate New York took an interest in my project. With their help we were able to stage the first firefall for a public audience since the event last took place half a century ago.
